SGMC Health recognized Anabell Luna, RN, Labor & Delivery, as the latest recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. This international recognition celebrates nurses who demonstrate exceptional clinical skill, compassionate care, and a deep commitment to their patients and families.
Luna was nominated by a grateful patient who shared a heartfelt account of her labor and delivery experience. Arriving at the hospital and unsure if she was in labor, the patient described feeling anxious and uncertain—past her due date and facing the unknown. From the moment she arrived, Luna’s calm presence and reassuring demeanor helped ease those fears.
According to the nomination, Luna remained the patient’s nurse throughout her entire stay, taking time to listen, answer questions, and build a personal connection that made the experience feel both comforting and individualized. As labor progressed and circumstances escalated quickly, Luna demonstrated steady leadership, making critical decisions and coordinating care while remaining composed and attentive.
Throughout labor, Luna offered continuous encouragement and calm reassurance. As delivery approached, the patient shared her hope that the baby would arrive soon, allowing Luna to be present for the birth. This wish was fulfilled, as the baby was born just minutes before shift change.
“Anabell made my labor and delivery experience truly wonderful,” the patient wrote. “Her patients are incredibly lucky to have her.”
The DAISY Award is presented monthly in front of the nurse’s colleagues, physicians, patients, and visitors. Each honoree receives a certificate of recognition, a hand-carved sculpture titled A Healer’s Touch from the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe, and a floral arrangement of daisies, generously donated by The Flower Gallery, SGMC Health’s local DAISY Award sponsor.
