SGMC Health recognized Jenny Chavez as the recipient of the Being Extraordinary Everyday (BEE) Award, a monthly honor that celebrates non‑nursing team members who demonstrate extraordinary dedication, teamwork, and compassion in support of patient care.
Chavez’s recognition is especially meaningful as it reflects both her impact on patients and a milestone moment in her career. She was nominated in February while serving as a patient care technician and was honored during her first week as a registered nurse after recently passing her nursing boards.
According to the nomination submitted by a patient’s family member, Chavez provided exceptional comfort and support during a difficult hospitalization. The nominator shared that Chavez reassured the family their loved one would be well cared for and consistently went above and beyond to ensure the patient’s comfort and dignity. She took the time to connect with the patient through humor, attentiveness, and compassionate care, even creating a personalized blinking system to communicate with the nonverbal patient.
Through that system, Chavez learned the patient’s likes and dislikes and made thoughtful efforts to ensure he remained comfortable and engaged throughout his stay. The nomination noted that her actions were not required but reflected a genuine desire to know and care for her patient, leaving a lasting impact on the family.
The BEE Award is presented monthly to recognize non-nursing staff members, including patient care technicians, nursing assistants, and medical assistants, who exemplify extraordinary dedication, teamwork, and compassion in supporting the nursing staff. Nominees are evaluated based on leadership, attitude, and clinical support skills.
