Girls on the Run South Georgia will host its celebratory 5K on Saturday, November 9th, at the Historic Lowndes County Courthouse. Registration is available online at https://www.pinwheel.us/r/FhNVONM or on 5K day from 7:00 AM to 7:30 AM. The 5K will kick off at 8:00 AM and is presented in cooperation with Lowndes County Employees! 

This event marks the culmination of a season where girls in grades 3-8 have worked hard to build their physical endurance and, more importantly, develop confidence, resilience, and life skills. Crossing the finish line is more than just completing a 5K—it’s a powerful symbol of what they’ve learned all season: they can achieve anything they set their minds to.

“We’re not just preparing girls for a 5K,” said Mary Crawford, Executive Director for Girls on the Run South Georgia. “We’re preparing them for life. The skills they gain through our program set the foundation for future success in their personal lives, careers, and beyond.”

The celebratory 5K brings together families, friends, and community supporters to cheer for each participant, reinforcing the message that every girl is strong, capable, and ready to take on future challenges.

Girls on the Run South Georgia invites the community to join in this special event, celebrating the accomplishments of these young girls and the confidence they’ve built throughout the season.  “We are grateful to all of our community partners,” Crawford said, “our presenting sponsor is the collective of Lowndes County Employees which is unique and special. From Lowndes County we have had incredible response from the fire department, EMS, sheriff’s office, county administrators, public information officers and many others. We have also had tremendous support from the City of Valdosta’s administration, the police and fire/EMS departments, public works, downtown main street, and public information departments. This event is truly an example of the entire community coming together to support young girls.”
