Transcript:

I’m Deidra Langstaff of Langstaff Marketing.  And I want to talk to you about the new time sucker, Pinterest.

People are always talking about the newest, coolest thing, and of course, Pinterest has been around for a while, but now businesses are getting into the game and wanting to know, you know, Deidra, should we be active on Pinterest?  And, what’s the difference between Google Plus, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and everything else that’s out there.  And as I always say, Pinterest is just another social networking site and it’s very easy to get caught up in the hype, but only use it if it really does makes sense for your company and if you can help build a personality on Pinterest.

Pinterest is a site, that first of all, last a little bit longer than Facebook or Twitter because, as you know, if you go onto Facebook or you Tweet something with Twitter, after a few days, that has moved off of people’s pages.  But when Pinterest, when you pen something, it stays there.  And it’s there for a very, very long time and that gives people more of an opportunity to see your brand and see what you’re interested in.

Basically, you’re going onto Pinterest and you’re penning and idea, a thought, it’s very visual, it’s all about if you see a cool sign or see a great craft.  Pinterest is a great way for your company or you, as an individual to go on and pen ideas that you have or cool things that you have run across that you think are neat and maybe they are with your company or maybe they’re just some other company out there that you really enjoy.  The one thing that you should know about Pinterest is, first of all, 80 percent of all of the people that are on Pinterest are women, they’re all about 25 to 54, make a little bit more or have a household with a little bit more than $100,000 household income.  About 50 percent of them have children.  So if you’re really into doing a great job on target marketing, this is the target for you.  But when I originally called it a time sucker, on average, people who are on Pinterest spend a little over 100 minutes at a time on Pinterest.  So you have got an audience that is very captured.  And once again, like I said, you can actually pen something and have it last longer than your Facebook status or any information you’d be tweeting about.

And remember when you’re doing this to make sure that you do keep your brand personality out there because that’s what’s most important.

And remember, marketing is everything and everything is marketing.
