SGMC Health recognized Nadijah Wills, Patient Care Technician in the Main Emergency Department, as the August recipient of the Being Extraordinary Everyday (BEE) Award. Wills was nominated by a colleague for her swift response and attentive care during an unexpected change in a patient’s condition.

According to the nomination, Wills was drawing labs on a patient in the Emergency Department triage area when she noticed something wasn’t right and immediately alerted the nursing staff for assistance. The patient had suddenly become lightheaded and fainted. Wills intervened promptly to stabilize the patient, ensuring her safety and preventing injury.

Her quick action ensured the patient was safely assessed and promptly transported to a room, where additional care continued.

“I’m very appreciative of Nadijah’s quick thinking and response in this situation on a very busy day,” the nomination stated. “Her attentiveness helped protect the patient from further harm.”

The BEE Award is presented monthly to recognize non-nursing staff members, including patient care technicians, nursing assistants, and medical assistants, who exemplify extraordinary dedication, teamwork, and compassion in supporting the nursing staff. Nominees are evaluated based on leadership, attitude, and clinical support skills.

“Nadijah demonstrated a level of awareness and care that reflects SGMC Health’s highest standards,” said Cherise Giddens, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer. “Her actions highlight the important role our support staff play in patient safety and quality care.”
