Valdosta’s March Unemployment Rate Sees Minor Uptick Amid Solid Job Sector Growth

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Valdosta recorded an unemployment rate of 3.5 percent in March, up one-tenth of a percent over-the-month. A year ago, the rate was 3.5 percent.

“Georgia’s job market is red hot with opportunity,” said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “This continuous growth is a strong indicator that our economic momentum is not slowing down any time soon. Once again, Georgia continues to shatter records in growing businesses statewide and creating jobs for hardworking Georgians.”

The labor force increased in Valdosta by 149 and ended the month with 62,734. That number went up by 205 when compared to March of 2023.

Valdosta finished the month with 60,528 employed residents. That number increased by 47 over-the-month and went up by 206 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Valdosta ended March with 56,300 jobs. That number went up by 300 from February to March and went down by 100 when compared to this time last year.

In March, initial unemployment claims decreased by 60 (-25%) in Valdosta. When you compare March 2024 claims to March 2023, claims were down by 17 (-9%).
