The Valdosta-Lowndes Metropolitan Section of NCNW, Inc. proudly announces Attorney and Author, Tremelle Howard, as the keynote speaker for their 10th Annual Bethune Leadership Recognition Banquet. The event will take place on November 9, 2024, at the Student Union at Valdosta State University, celebrating the remarkable leadership, accomplishments, and community service of women from diverse backgrounds.

Howard is a distinguished figure, holding credentials as a licensed attorney, published author, and passionate community advocate. Her commitment to service and her inspiring journey make her an ideal choice for this significant and monumental event. Howard's favorite scripture, Romans 8:28, encapsulates her belief in the power of faith and purpose.

"Attorney Howard embodies the spirit of leadership and resilience that we aim to highlight at our Bethune Leadership Banquet," says Attorney Karla Walker, Section President of Valdosta-Lowndes Metropolitan NCNW. "Her dedication to making a difference in her community, coupled with her professional achievements, serves as an inspiration to us all."

Dr. Amber Garvin-Buchanan, Chair of the event, emphasizes the importance of sponsorships in ensuring the success of the event. "Sponsorship opportunities not only contribute to the success of the Bethune Leadership Banquet but also provide invaluable support to our mission of recognizing and celebrating the outstanding contributions of women in our community.”

Garvin-Buchanan also encourages the community to nominate deserving women for recognition at the banquet. "We urge everyone to take this opportunity to nominate outstanding women who embody leadership, resilience, and service," says Dr. Garvin-Buchanan. "Your nominations will help us shine a light on the remarkable achievements of these individuals and inspire others in our community."

Howard’s academic achievements include a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Maryland and a law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. Currently serving as the Regional Solicitor/Regional Chief Legal Officer for the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of the Solicitor (Region IV) in Atlanta, GA, Howard is the first African American woman to hold an executive position in her regional office, leading a team of 46 staff across Atlanta and Nashville.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Howard is the founder & CEO of the Mikayla Cares Foundation, a 501c3 organization established in August 2021 to address childhood drownings and promote access to swim lessons, particularly within the African American community. Her first book, "Still Standing: Blessings, Burdens, and Brighter Days After the Loss of a Child," chronicles her personal journey of resilience and faith following the loss of her daughter, Mikayla Courtney, in 2012, fueling her passion for water safety.

Howard's commitment to community extends to her involvement in various organizations, including her roles as a Life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., serving as the South Atlantic Representative to the International Constitution Committee, and her leadership in The Links, Incorporated. She also plays an active role in the Northwest Georgia Section of NCNW, where she is a Life Member and Charter member.

The Bethune Leadership Recognition Banquet, named in honor of the esteemed founder of NCNW, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, serves as a platform to celebrate women's leadership and service across generations and backgrounds.
