The Valdosta Police Department (VPD) is proud to announce the launch of the Stand Against Youth Violence Education (S.A.Y.V.E.) initiative, aimed at empowering teenagers with the knowledge and skills necessary to combat issues such as bullying, gang activity, substance abuse, firearms safety, and the importance of mentorship. This comprehensive week-long program will be held from June 10th to June 14th, 2024, from 8 am to 12 pm at the City Hall Annex building in the Multipurpose room located at 300 N. Lee St, Valdosta, GA 31601.

Designed for teens aged 13 to 16, the S.A.Y.V.E. initiative will feature engaging classes led by experienced VPD officers covering various topics crucial to promoting a safer and healthier community. Participants will have the opportunity to learn valuable strategies for conflict resolution, decision-making, and positive peer interaction.

In addition to the educational sessions, breakfast and lunch will be provided daily to ensure participants have the energy and focus needed to fully engage with the material presented. The program will also offer opportunities for teens to connect with Valdosta Police Department officers and mentors. 

"We are excited to launch the Stand Against Youth Violence Education initiative as part of our ongoing commitment to fostering positive relationships with the youth in our community," said Chief Leslie Manahan of the Valdosta Police Department. "By providing valuable education and resources, we aim to empower teenagers to make informed choices and become agents of positive change."

Additionally, the City of Valdosta is offering free rides through Valdosta On-Demand to participants who may need transportation assistance. Individuals can create an account and download the Valdosta On-Demand app from the App Store or Google Play store to book a ride. For those without access to a smartphone, rides can be booked by calling (229) 441-2940 for assistance over the phone.
