City of Valdosta Recognizes March 2024 Employee of the Month

The City of Valdosta proudly announces the recognition of School Resource Officer Devonta Battle as the Employee of the Month for March 2024. Mayor Scott James Matheson and Valdosta Police Chief Leslie Manahan bestowed this honor upon Officer Battle during the Valdosta City Council regular meeting held on March 7, 2024. 

Officer Devonta Battle has been an integral part of the City of Valdosta's law enforcement team since 2015, demonstrating unwavering dedication and commitment to serving the community. Assigned as a School Resource Officer at Valdosta High School since 2017, Officer Battle has not only upheld the highest standards of professionalism but has also deeply invested himself in the welfare and future of the students. 

Chief Leslie Manahan commended Officer Battle, stating, "Officer Battle's initiative and dedication to his alma mater are exemplary. His creation of the 'Devonta Battle Financial Literacy Scholarship' demonstrates his commitment to supporting our students beyond their academic journey. His selfless acts reflect the values of the Valdosta Police Department and the City of Valdosta." 

The "Devonta Battle Financial Literacy Scholarship" has provided invaluable support to graduating seniors, easing the burden of financial concerns as they pursue higher education. Officer Battle's leadership has inspired additional donors to contribute to the scholarship fund, positively impacting the lives of students at Valdosta High School, VECA, and Horne Learning Center.
