Valdosta Historic Preservation Commission Work Session

The purpose of the Valdosta Historic Preservation Commission is to protect, preserve, and promote the City's historic resources. The Historic Preservation Commission is empowered to regulate the demolition, relocation, or any material change to the exterior of historic resources and non-historic resources located in the Valdosta Local Historic District. Any exterior material changes, including the installation of signs, to properties within the Local Historic District must first receive a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) from the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC). The HPC is also tasked with several other responsibilities, including recommending historic properties for local historic designation. A full listing of the HPC's powers and duties can be found in the City of Valdosta Land Development Regulations, Chapter 238, Section 238-5.

The Valdosta Historic Preservation Commission meets the first Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall Annex Building, Multi-Purpose Room, located at 300 North Lee Street.  Meetings are open to the public.  View the 2021 Meeting Schedule.

Greater Lowndes Planning Commission Meeting

The missions of the Greater Lowndes Planning Commission (GLPC) are to review and make any recommendations on all official zoning and related local government land-use decisions, to look beyond short-term solutions in planning for the future of the Greater Lowndes community; to improve the public health, safety, convenience and welfare; and to provide for the social, economic and physical development of communities on a sound and orderly basis, within a governmental framework and economic environment which fosters constructive growth and efficient administration. The Commission provides assistance to local governments in updating, amending, and implementing county-wide comprehensive plans and developing land use ordinances and policies to ensure compatibility with regional and local plans, goals, objectives and recommend appropriate action to the elected officials.

The Greater Lowndes Planning Commission meets the last Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the South Health District, 325 West Savannah Avenue.  View the 2021 meeting schedule.

The Work Sessions are held the second to last Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m.  These meetings are open to the public.

MPO Citizens Advisory Committee

The Metropolitan Planning Organization Citizen's Advisory Committee (MPO CAC) is responsible for promoting public meetings, leading and participating in focus groups, identifying recipients of surveys, and recommending stakeholders to include in plan development. The MPO CAC will also ensure representation and consideration of disadvantaged citizens and provide extra outreach to those without a voice. The MPO CAC will also make project recommendations as well as review plans and provide input.
 

The MPO CAC meets quarterly on the first Tuesday of each month at 3:00 p.m. at the Southern Georgia Regional Commission located at 327 West Savannah Avenue.  View the 2021 MPO CAC Meeting Schedule.
