Team Moody hosted its fourth 23d Wing Diversity Day event May 14, 2021.

The Diversity Day event celebrated and recognized the various cultures of service members throughout the Department of Defense with education stations and interactive performances.

“It’s a big celebration to show emphasis for each special observance,” said Staff Sgt. LaQuarsha Lott, 23d Wing Equal Opportunity practitioner. “Each special observance gets their own booth and they get to decorate it however they’d like, and they’ll have a lot of educational pieces so people can be educated on that observance as well.”

This year’s theme was “The Sound of Diversity Through Inclusion and Equality.”

“We talk a lot about building a war-fighting culture of trust and inclusion,” said Col. Dan Walls, 23d Wing commander. “In order to do that, we have to make sure that every single member of our team feels a part of it and feels that trust from our other team members — it is a mission imperative that we embrace and empower every member of our team and overcome challenges together.”

Events like these are able to bring Airmen to one central location to experience the diverse atmosphere of the Air Force in an educational and celebratory way, which impacts not only Moody’s mission, but also the Air Force as a whole.

“Especially this year with everything going on in society, Diversity Day is able to affect Moody in making sure there is a space for all of us to come together and learn about different cultures,” Lott said. “We’re able to see that other people are just like us, and we can take that back to our work center and can get along with that (coworker) next to us to complete (Moody’s mission) knowing that were all here for the same mission, even if we might be from different backgrounds.”
