Moody’s 2020 Combined Federal Campaign closed out January 2021 with 71 contributors raising $20,101, exceeding 2018 and 2019’s campaign.

However, the campaign had some difficulty raising awareness and interacting with potential donors due to COVID-19 restrictions.

“Running any sort of event is really tough, and you've got to be pretty cautious about how you set things up -- how you want people to social distance,” said 2nd Lt. Matthew Brien, 23d Contracting Squadron base infrastructure officer in charge and installation campaign manager. “Even the foot traffic wasn't as high because of people working from home. Operating in that environment was a challenge.”

The campaign ran from Sept. 21, 2020, to Jan. 15, 2021, and Moody campaign representatives collected pledges and donations in the modern, socially distanced environment.

“I wanted to get to know folks, establish contacts, and really work towards a good, meaningful goal,” Brien said about 2020’s limitations. “I just wanted to see what we could do as a base to raise money here and see if we could push the limits of what we've done in the past.”

In spite of the many challenges, Brien and his team hosted a safety-conscious food truck rodeo event to drum up donations, resulting in the Southeast Tristate CFC recognizing them as an honorable mention in their Agency of the Year placements.

“I was happy that we were able to contribute the way we did,” said Master Sgt. Jamie Beard, 347th Operations Support Squadron superintendent and group campaign representative. “I'm a believer in paying it forward and taking care of people. I think it’s important that everybody gets involved and gets out there.”

Beard said the funds raised at Moody could not have been possible without the people who pledged.

“Sharing your passion for your cause is important,” Brien said. “Your donation makes a difference for these charities.”

The CFC is a unified charitable campaign to provide federal employees with the opportunity to commit their time or money to a cause of their choosing, and the next CFC kicks off in September 2021.
