South Georgia PRSA to Meet at Thomas University March 14th

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Tuesday, March 13th, 2018

The South Georgia Public Relations Society of America Chapter will hold its next regular meeting at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, in Smith-Bonvillian Hall, on Thomas University’s Forbes Campus at the intersection of Pinetree Boulevard and Millpond Road in Thomasville.

The featured speaker for the event will be Marta Jones Turner, who retired from Flowers Foods in December 2017 after almost 40 years of service. The former Executive Vice President of Corporate Relations will share how communications professionals can focus on messaging to establish an organization’s strategies, operating philosophies and culture.

Turner joined Flowers in 1978, holding posts in public relations and communications. She was named vice president of public affairs in 1997, and took on the additional responsibilities of investor relations in 2000. She was promoted to senior vice president of corporate relations in 2004 and was named executive vice president of corporate relations in 2008. For the next year Turner continues to work as an outside contractor to complete Flowers’ history museum in the Heritage Center in Thomasville.

The 2018 SG PRSA year has a strong emphasis on networking as a community for the community. Formed in 2015, the local chapter seeks to bring communication professionals—whatever their titles—together to inspire each other and to grow in the public relations field. The chapter meets monthly throughout the year, with the exception of June, July and December. Chapter meetings are held at a different location each month to highlight the variety of area venue options.

Admission to the event is free and includes light refreshments and a networking reception. The event is open to current chapter members and prospective chapter members.
