AFAF Campaign Embraces Airmen Helping Airmen

Staff Report From Valdosta CEO

The 2018 Air Force Assistance Fund campaign at Moody begins March 26 and will proceed until May 4, here.

Moody leadership kicked off the campaign with a breakfast, encouraging maximum participation from the Flying Tigers to raise $70,469. The donation contributions helps current and fellow Airmen in need to overcome financial hardships.

“The goal of the Air Force Assistance Force is to lend critical support to Airmen [active-duty and retired] and their families,” said Senior Master Sgt. Javier Saez, Moody AFAF installation project officer. “With our contributions, [the program] can help with emergency needs, educational assistance and family support [while also] providing comfort and assistance to Air Force widows and widowers.”

To provide this support, the annual campaign consists of four agencies: the Air Force Aid Society; the Lemay Foundation; the Air Force Villages Charitable Foundation; and the Air Force Enlisted Village.

Highlighting their dedicated services, the AF Aid Society for instance helps service members acquire airline tickets for emergency travel, and also assists with car repairs.

“The program is extremely beneficial, they not only provide financial assistance to any of our military family, but also create an ease of mind,” said Senior Airman Tyrone Roberts, 23d Aircraft Maintenance Squadron administrative technician. “As a member of the military, I rely on my fellow Airmen to always have my back regardless of the situation.

“Being able to assist another member in need is the greatest feeling one can receive,” Roberts added. “We may spend more time with each other on a day-to-day during duty hours, but off-duty we may not know what someone is going through, which is why this is important.”

For Roberts, donating to this program is something he looks forward to. To make contributions, Moody Airmen can use payroll deduction or cash (which includes checks, money orders and cashier’s checks).

Additionally, members may choose to give via credit card donations on the individual charities web sites.
