Wiregrass Automotive Tech Program Receives National Accreditation

Staff Report From Valdosta CEO

Thursday, April 27th, 2017

Technology is touching every part of our lives, from smart phones to automobiles that can actually park themselves.  With increased technology and computers in our vehicles today, the need for skilled and educated automotive technicians is growing.  The old image of auto technicians working in greasy auto shops is a thing of the past.  With vehicles becoming more computerized, it takes skilled, trained technicians to be able to repair and keep our cars running properly.  Wiregrass’ Automotive Technology program was recently accredited by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation.  Wiregrass meets the strict industry standards required for a NATEF Master Automobile Service Technology Association.  This is the highest level of achievement recognized by NATEF.  This foundation serves as an accrediting agency for automotive schools from secondary to technical colleges. The accreditation helps the program teach what industry needs and gives the students a chance to use and learn the equipment of a professional shop in a learning environment.

Wiregrass offers Automotive Technology on the Valdosta and Ben Hill-Irwin Campuses.  Students can enroll in the diploma programs for Automotive Technology, or earn a technical certificate in two different Automotive Technician Specialist programs.  “Becoming an automotive technician is a great way to earn a living for your family and offers stability and growth within your community. The demand has never been higher for good technicians who want to work hard and continue to train and learn new technologies," shared Automotive Instructor Toby Heard.

Wiregrass is currently accepting new students for Summer and Fall Semesters.  Summer classes start May 15 or students can enroll for Wiregrass’ new Summer Express Semester.  This mini semester classes start May 30 and finish in seven weeks.  Students interested in starting this fall will begin classes on August 17.  Apply today by contacting the admissions office at 229-333-2100, or visit wiregrass.edu.
