Valdosta Pilot Shuttle Program Announces Changes

Staff Report From Valdosta CEO

Thursday, June 30th, 2016

Effective Tuesday, July 5th, 2016 the Valdosta Shuttle Pilot Program will combine its Northern and Southern routes into one continuous loop. These changes are the result of a reduction in funding for the Pilot Shuttle Project for Fiscal Year 2017.

The combined route will add additional stops in more residential areas, while removing stops along Gil Harbin Industrial Boulevard, at Wiregrass Tech, and eLead/Fresh Beginnings locations. The route will begin at the Mildred Hunter Community Center, and make a figure–eight loop throughout the community, using the South Georgia Regional Library as its midpoint. The loop should take approximately 90 minutes to complete, contingent upon trains, traffic, and any incidents along the route.

As a result of the 90 minute loop, the shuttle will operate Monday-Friday from 7:00am-7:00pm, and Saturday from 8:30am-4:00pm. The Shuttle will be closed on Monday July 4th for the Independence Day holiday, and Monday September 5th for Labor Day holiday.

New shuttle stop signs will be printed with a QR code for citizens to scan with their smart devices, which will take them directly to the Pilot Shuttle Program website for more information. QR code scanners are available to download from most app stores.

Funding to support this project is the result of a grant the Georgia Department of Human Services receives from the Georgia Department of Transportation in conjunction with the Federal Transit Association.  The shuttle is free to clients who fill out the mandatory Consumer Registration Form, which is available online at www.sgrc.us, under the Transportation link. The Department of Human Services is prepared to extend the Valdosta Shuttle Project until September 30, 2016.
