On January 1, Invision Technologies LLC acquired Alarm Detection Technology, Inc., the ADT Security Services provider for South Georgia.  Both firms are located in Albany. The new combined company, which will use the Invision Technologies name, will continue to provide ADT security and automation services along with IT services and support.

"We see security and IT services as a natural combination for our customers, especially small business owners.  And we'll continue to serve residential customers with security, home video and automation, and other technology services," said Jay Carpenter, co-founder of Alarm Detect and now partner and chief business developer for Invision Tech.

"This merger is all about growth because it gives us more opportunities to grow our business, not only in our hometown but in areas outside of Albany.  We are actually already looking to hire IT technicians now.  Only one person lost their job in the merger and that's my father and partner, Larry Carpenter, who was looking to retire from the business."

Complementary services for small businesses

Invision Technologies helps small to medium-size businesses manage their IT infrastructure and implement new technologies to take their operations to the next level.  In particular, Invision specializes in serving the professional services industry, which includes doctors, attorneys, accountants, engineers and other professionals.  Currently, the majority of the firm's clients are located within a 90-mile radius of Albany.

In 2013, Invision purchased Atlantic Tel-Com, Inc. (ATC).  Since 1981, ATC has been on the cutting edge of telephone systems from the original digital systems, to modern day Voice over IP or VoIP systems.  ATC also offers telephone service, web-based access control services and IP surveillance camera systems.

As an ADT dealer, Alarm Detection Technology, and now Invision, provide security and monitoring, home video and automation, commercial CCTV and commercial fire alarm services.  Carpenter and his father started the business in 1998.  According to Jay Carpenter, they have been "looking for an exit strategy for my dad and some partner help for me for a couple of years now."

Plans to grow

Carpenter joins Jay Pollock and Andrew Robinson as partners in Invision Technologies.  The company plans to move into the current Alarm Detection Technology offices and build out an additional 4,000 square feet for a state-of-the-art server room and IT support facility.

"We'll begin planning the space shortly with the hope of breaking ground on the addition some time in March," Carpenter said.
