On May 23, CooperCraft Communications, which specializes in the installation and upgrades of security systems, telecommunication systems and cabling infrastructure, completed a merger with network specialists, Select-Tel Systems.  The combined company, called CooperCraft Communications, has approximately 45 employees and offices in Albany and Tifton.

"We are excited to merge and partner with the employees of Select-Tel Systems," said CooperCraft Communications CEO Jerry Cooper.  "They have proven to be a well-run, strong business throughout the years and we are looking forward to the opportunity of serving the existing Select-Tel customers."

"CooperCraft Communications is excited about the opportunity of expanding our business to meet all the client's needs.  Tom Aldridge [President of Select-Tel Systems] has more than 20 years of experience in fire and life safety and will be director of this newly developed division [within CooperCraft]."

Advantages for CooperCraft and Select-Tel customers

With CooperCraft retaining the Select-Tel office in Albany and no immediate changes in email addresses or phone numbers, customers may think the merger will make little or no difference to them. However, according to Erin Parker, marketing specialist for CooperCraft, the merger offers meaningful advantages for both CooperCraft and Select-Tel customers.

CooperCraft customers will benefit from the 20-plus years of experience that Tom Aldridge and Select-Tel bring in fire and life safety.  Select-Tel customers will benefit from having access to a larger number of field technicians to serve their business.  The merger is expected to be smooth and seamless to implement.

"Our companies have similar styles and have been friendly competitors for years," Parker said.

Short History

Founded in 2002 by Jerry Cooper, CooperCraft began with a vision to overcome many of the hurdles found in large corporations to serving the customer. In 2007 Darrell Powell become a partner in the business with Jerry. Together they have built a team that realizes the customer is truly the most important asset to a company; CooperCraft has become a recognized brand for customers needing security solutions, network infrastructures, and integrated communication systems. The company has grown from a small office in Sylvester, GA to serving customers throughout the southeastern United States.

Based in Albany, Select-Tel Systems has been in business since 1993 as an engineering firm, designing outside plant cable and electronics for the telephone industry. By adding the basic components of the network to the original core business, the company grew into a full-service network integrator with experienced staff in all areas of networking computers, telephone systems and other low voltage systems. Select-Tel Systems was selected as the Small Business of the Year by the Albany Chamber in 2001.
