I’m Lee McArthur and I own a New York Life agency here in the Valdosta area. I want to speak with you briefly about how and why I do what I do. I became first interested in the financial markets and how and why they work back in the ‘90s when I owned a small ISP, Internet Service Provider, here in this area, back in the days when it took a modem to get on to the Internet. Ended up selling that business, but as a result of that time I became intrigued with financial planning, financial markets and why they work, which ultimately led me to do what I’m doing now through a series of years.
But more specifically, what fires me out of bed in the morning is why do I do what I do? And the phrase that – which is very wordy, but that fires me out of bed is multigenerational fatefulness. It’s the concept that we can be a great country yet again if we truly begin to think passed the end of our nose, passed the end of the table, sort to speak, and begin to invest in the next generation again. As opposed to multigenerational fatefulness, another way to say it that I like, is invest in your DNA. We used to be really good at that in this country. Back before the other turn of the century when it was very common for fathers to pass on land, and pass on also education as what to do with the land.
We always made sure we educated the next generation and that we put capital investment in to the next generation. Over the last hundred years, as taxation and other regulations make that increasingly harder, we still continue to educate our children, but it’s been harder to invest in them from a capital point of view. That’s why I enjoy doing what I do. Sometimes we use a little bit of life insurance, sometimes we use some creative saving methods that keep it out of your estate, keep it out of the estate tax hands, if you will.
But our country is a great one. We’re the only one that was ever founded on an idea of how to be great, and I believe we can be great again. I just look at my roll as helping family-by-family, company-by-company, person-by-person begin to invest further than themselves. That’s one of the largest reasons of why I do what I do. I believe many times it’s more important to understand why somebody does, as opposed to what they do.
But I’d love to talk further if there were ever any questions someone had about retirement planning, about estate planning. The best number for me is (229) 740-2415.
