In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and SGMC Health’s continued commitment to women’s health, the SGMC Health Breast Center is offering 150 free 3D mammogram screenings to uninsured women who demonstrate financial need. Screenings will be available at the SGMC Imaging Center in Valdosta and SGMC Health Berrien in Nashville.

Now in its fourth year, the initiative is funded through generous support of the SGMC Health Foundation and is designed to help remove financial barriers to preventive care. Eligible women can apply online at sgmc.org/mammo. Once approved, applicants will be contacted by a Breast Center representative to schedule their screening.

“Because of the generosity of our donors, we can help remove financial barriers and connect more women with potentially life-saving screenings,” said Hilary Willis, Executive Director of the SGMC Health Foundation. “Early detection saves lives, and this program helps ensure women throughout our region have access to the care they need.”

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer remains the second most common cancer among women in the United States, with approximately one in eight women expected to develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime. Regular screenings and early detection continue to play a critical role in improving outcomes and reducing breast cancer mortality.

SGMC Health utilizes Genius™ 3D Mammography™ exams by Hologic, Inc., an advanced breast imaging technology that improves cancer detection rates while reducing the need for additional imaging and follow-up testing.

The free 3D mammograms will be available to the first 150 eligible women who meet the following criteria:

• 40 years of age or older
• Have not had a mammogram within the past 12 months
• Uninsured and demonstrate financial need
• Are not pregnant
• Not currently experiencing breast problems (those with symptoms should contact their physician)
• Live in one of the following counties: Lowndes, Berrien, Lanier, Brooks, Echols, Clinch, Cook, Atkinson, or Irwin
