Lowndes County Fire Rescue (LCFR) brought home third place overall at the 2026 Georgia Firefighter Competition, held August 27 during the 2026 Georgia Fire Service Conference in Augusta.

The LCFR team put its training, strength, teamwork, and firefighting skills to the test while competing against fire departments from across Georgia. The competition featured a series of challenging events designed to test the skills and abilities firefighters rely on in the field, including Barrel Roll, Dress ’n’ Squirt, Tight Squeeze (One into Two), Busted Hose Replacement, and the Mystery Event.

Throughout the competition, the LCFR team demonstrated the importance of preparation, communication and teamwork while competing at a high level alongside firefighters from throughout the state.

“We are incredibly proud of our team and the hard work they put into preparing for this competition,” said Lowndes County Fire Rescue Chief Billy Young. “Finishing third overall among firefighters from across Georgia is an outstanding accomplishment and a reflection of the dedication, training and teamwork our firefighters bring to the job every day.”

The competition provided LCFR firefighters with an opportunity to showcase their skills while representing Lowndes County on the state level.
