SGMC Health welcomes Johann Braithwaite, DO, to its growing network of physician specialists. Dr. Braithwaite is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. His addition expands access to advanced orthopedic care for patients across South Georgia.

As an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist, Dr. Braithwaite treats a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions affecting the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, ankle, hand, and other areas of the body. His practice includes arthroscopic procedures of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and ankle; shoulder, hip, and knee replacement; trauma and fracture care involving the upper and lower extremities; and treatment of common hand conditions, including carpal tunnel syndrome and trigger finger.

“I am excited to join SGMC Health and begin this next chapter in Valdosta,” said Dr. Braithwaite. “From our first visit, my wife and I felt a strong connection to both the community and the people at SGMC Health. We saw Valdosta as a place where we could pursue our version of the American dream: establishing ourselves in a close-knit community, starting a family, building our careers, and caring for the people around us.”

Dr. Braithwaite is committed to providing compassionate, patient-centered care. He believes in taking the time to understand each patient’s goals, concerns, and lifestyle so treatment plans can be tailored not only to their medical needs, but also to their personal priorities and desired level of activity.

“Patients can expect a patient and attentive physician who takes the time to listen, connect with them on a personal level, and explain their condition in understandable terms,” said Dr. Braithwaite. “My goal is to ensure patients have the information they need to make confident, informed decisions about their healthcare.”

Born on the island of Trinidad and Tobago and raised primarily in Florida, Dr. Braithwaite brings a diverse perspective and a strong commitment to serving his community. Outside of medicine, he enjoys golf, running, pickleball, soccer, and working out at the gym.

Dr. Braithwaite’s wife, Cassandra, is a teacher, and the couple is excited to become active members of the Valdosta community as they begin building their future in South Georgia.

In addition to providing surgical care in the hospital, Dr. Braithwaite will see patients at SGMC Orthopedics, located at 2310 N. Patterson Street, Suite B. Through his outpatient practice, he offers evaluation and treatment for a wide range of orthopedic and sports medicine conditions, helping patients throughout the region access specialized care close to home.
