SGMC Health Earns National Recognition for Excellence in Stroke Care

SGMC Health has earned the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines®–Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award, along with the Target: Stroke Honor Roll and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll distinctions. The recognition marks the thirteenth consecutive year the health system has been acknowledged for meeting rigorous national standards in stroke care.
The Get With The Guidelines®–Stroke Gold Plus award recognizes hospitals that demonstrate a commitment to following the most up-to-date, research-based treatment guidelines for stroke care. The additional honor roll distinctions recognize efforts to reduce treatment times and provide specialized care for stroke patients with Type 2 diabetes, who face a greater risk of complications. By adhering to these nationally recognized standards, SGMC Health continues to enhance care and improve outcomes for patients across the region.
A stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted by a blockage or bleeding in the brain. Without immediate medical attention, brain cells can begin to die within minutes, increasing the risk of permanent disability or death. Early intervention remains one of the most important factors in recovery.
