SGMC Health recognized Crisp Booker-Orr, Sleep Lab Technician at SGMC Health Smith Northview, as the latest recipient of the Safe Care Award for demonstrating exceptional awareness, quick thinking, and a strong commitment to patient safety.

During a routine interaction, Booker-Orr recognized that a patient was experiencing a potentially serious medical concern requiring immediate attention. Understanding the urgency of the situation, Booker-Orr took swift action to escalate care and ensure the patient was quickly connected with the appropriate clinical team for further evaluation and treatment.

By responding without hesitation and helping facilitate timely access to a higher level of care, Booker-Orr played a critical role in supporting the patient during a moment when rapid intervention was essential. This response highlights the importance of situational awareness, critical thinking, and acting decisively when something does not seem right.

Booker-Orr’s actions reflect key principles of high reliability, including a focus on identifying potential risk and a commitment to responding without delay. By recognizing early warning signs and taking immediate steps to address the concern, Booker-Orr helped reinforce a culture where patient safety remains the top priority.

“This response reflects the high standards of awareness and teamwork that are essential to our culture of safety at SGMC Health,” said Pankaj Agrawal, MD, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer. “Crisp’s ability to recognize risk and act quickly supports safe, timely care and exemplifies the principles that guide our High Reliability journey and our commitment to every patient we serve.”
