Lowndes County Chairman Bill Slaughter was recently reappointed vice chair of the Federal Policy Committee forthe Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG or Georgia’s County Association). The appointment was made by ACCG President and Colquitt County Commissioner Marc DeMott.
“Policy development and legislative advocacy are foundational aspects of our organization,” said Executive Director Dave Wills. “ACCG prioritizes being a member-driven and focused organization. The Governmental Affairs staff looks forward to working with the new leaders of our policy committees to drive discussions and help lead change on issues of significance to all Georgia counties.”
Through a consensus-based policy development process, ACCG policy committees develop positions on key issues impacting county government. Those issues are later approved by the full association membership for inclusion in the ACCG Policy Agenda which guides ACCG’s advocacy efforts on behalf of counties during the legislative session.
The Federal Committee studies policy issues at the federal level and develops a targeted advocacy strategy to position Georgia counties as a resource on local government issues nationally.
“I am honored to continue serving as vice chair of ACCG’s Federal Policy Committee and to represent Lowndes County at the state and national levels,” said Bill Slaughter, Lowndes County Chairman. “This committee plays a vital role in ensuring that Georgia counties have a strong voice on federal issues that directly affect our local communities. I appreciate the opportunity to work alongside county leaders from across the state to advocate for policies that support our counties and the citizens we serve.”
