One Lane of Second Valdosta Five Points Roundabout to Open
Friday, April 17th, 2026
One lane of the second/south roundabout in the Five Points area of Valdosta is scheduled to open April 21 and the temporary traffic signals that have been controlling traffic at that location will be removed.
Removal of the signals is expected to reduce delays and improve traffic flow. Traffic will shift onto the new alignment around 8:30 a.m., after morning traffic comes through. Only one lane will be open so that traffic can be safely moved while the center of the roundabout and the outside medians are formed and poured. The second lane will not open until the final topping and striping is finished.
Traffic was put on the north roundabout, the one in front of the shopping center on State Route 7 Business, in February. Construction also continues at that location.
Roundabouts have been shown to increase safety, improve mobility and reduce congestion. Motorists are reminded that traffic in the circle has the right of way. Motorists approaching the roundabout should yield to those vehicles before proceeding. It is not necessary to stop if no traffic is approaching from the left.
There are instructional videos and other helpful resources on Georgia DOT's website to help familiarize drivers with how to navigate roundabouts. Go to https://www.dot.ga.gov/GDOT/pages/Roundabouts.aspx for more information.
A lot of work remains to be done on the project, which is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2029, though it is currently ahead of schedule. Motorists are asked to slow down as they approach the area and watch for workers and heavy equipment that will be on site.
