A new Buc-ee’s slated to open in Monroe County broke ground Tuesday morning.

Buc-ee’s is a chain of super-sized travel centers that have become destinations in their own right due to their popularity on social media. The Buc-ee’s going into Monroe County will be the fourth in Georgia, according to their website, and cover 74,000 square feet.

The project has drawn controversy among county residents, with about 100 residents attending the Monroe County Commission meeting where officials voted on the project in December 2025.

County officials and representatives from Buc-ee’s who spoke Tuesday’s event emphasized their hope that the gas station will bring jobs and tax revenue to the area.
