Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Wednesday, February 25th, 2026

SGMC Health recognized Shantonitt Wallace, Patient Care Technician, as the recipient of the Being Extraordinary Everyday (BEE) Award, a monthly honor that celebrates non‑nursing team members who demonstrate extraordinary dedication, teamwork, and compassion in support of patient care.

Wallace was nominated for the exceptional compassion and calming presence she provided to a patient who was feeling anxious and fearful ahead of a medical exam. According to the nomination, Wallace remained at the patient’s side, offering reassurance and comfort while helping her feel safe and supported during a stressful moment. Through thoughtful conversation and a genuine, caring approach, she was able to build trust with the patient, helping her relax and successfully complete the exam.

The nomination further noted that Wallace’s attentiveness extended beyond emotional support. She ensured the patient’s dignity and comfort by assisting with personal care, making sure she was cleaned up before being returned to her bed, and safely escorting her back to her room. Her actions reflected a deep sense of compassion and an unwavering commitment to patient‑centered care.

“Shantonitt exemplifies the kind of human kindness and attentiveness that makes a meaningful difference in the patient experience,” the nomination stated. “Her calm demeanor, empathy, and willingness to go above and beyond helped build trust when it mattered most."

The BEE Award is presented monthly to recognize non-nursing staff members, including patient care technicians, nursing assistants, and medical assistants, who exemplify extraordinary dedication, teamwork, and compassion in supporting the nursing staff. Nominees are evaluated based on leadership, attitude, and clinical support skills.
