Wednesday, January 7th, 2026
SGMC Health welcomes William Courson, DO, a board-certified Family Medicine physician, to the health system. Dr. Courson will see patients at SGMC Primary Care on Connell Road in Valdosta.
A native of Valdosta, Dr. Courson is excited to return home to serve his community. Specializing in Family Medicine, he provides comprehensive primary care for patients of all ages, from pediatrics to adult medicine. He diagnoses and treats a wide range of medical conditions, including illnesses, injuries, chronic conditions, and preventative care. His goal is to build long-term relationships with patients and families, ensuring continuity of care across all stages of life.
“I believe in connecting with patients on a personal level to establish rapport and trust. Patients can expect to get a doctor who listens and tailors their care to their needs,” said Dr. Courson.
With years of experience proctoring medical students, Dr. Courson looks forward to helping establish SGMC Health’s new Family Medicine Residency program launching in July 2026. SGMC Primary Care on Connell Road will serve as the continuity clinic for residents, providing hands-on training for future Family Medicine physicians.
Dr. Courson earned his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine campus in Georgia. He completed his residency training at Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins. He is board-certified in Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Courson is an avid college football fan and enjoys spending time with his two dogs and his family.
Dr. Courson is now accepting patients at SGMC Primary Care. For appointments, visit health.sgmc.org/primary-care.
