Monday, January 5th, 2026
SGMC Health welcomed its first baby of 2026 on New Year’s Day. The new year’s baby, Landan Anderson, born to Cassandra Jones and Leon Anderson, was greeted with joy and celebration by the SGMC Health Women and Infants team. The family received a special gift basket prepared by the SGMC Health Volunteer Auxiliary, affectionately known as the “Pink Ladies.”
“Welcoming the first baby of the year is always a treasured moment," shared Katie Gordon, Nurse Manager in Labor & Delivery. "It represents hope and the promise of brighter days ahead. We are honored to share in this family’s joy and provide the extraordinary care SGMC Health is known for.”
SGMC Health offers a personalized birthing experience tailored to meet the unique needs of every mother through its full-service maternity center. With a team of experienced professionals dedicated to mothers and babies, SGMC Health provides comprehensive support before, during, and after delivery. Services include 24-hour coverage by obstetricians, anesthesiologists, and neonatologists, as well as lactation support, a skilled nursing team, and a certified car seat safety technician. Expectant parents can also attend monthly classes on childbirth, breastfeeding, and epidurals to prepare for their journey.
SGMC Health is home to the region’s only Level IIB Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), equipped to care for premature and medically fragile infants with 24/7 coverage by board-certified neonatologists. The hospital also offers an OB hospitalist program and an OB emergency department, ensuring moms-to-be have immediate access to expert care at any time. Innovative programs such as AngelEye Health—secure video technology that connects families with their newborns—and options for cord blood banking and placenta donation reflect SGMC Health’s commitment to combining advanced technology with compassionate care.
Looking ahead, SGMC Health is investing in the future with the ongoing construction of its Women & Infants Tower and Emergency Department, expected to be completed in late 2026. This $150 million project will provide a state-of-the-art environment for specialized prenatal, neonatal, and postnatal care, ensuring families across the region have access to world-class services for generations to come.
With nearly 2,000 babies delivered annually at SGMC Health, this New Year’s Day marks the beginning of another year dedicated to bringing joy and hope to families throughout South Georgia.
