SGMC Health recognized Donitra “Donnie” Mathis, Patient Care Technician at SGMC Health Smith Northview, as the latest recipient of the Being Extraordinary Everyday (BEE) Award. Mathis was nominated by six different patients or family members during the month of December, an extraordinary testament to her consistent, patient-centered approach and the positive outcomes she helps create.
According to the nominations, from the moment she enters a room, Mathis’s genuine kindness and calming presence put patients at ease. Her ability to connect on a personal level, combined with professional expertise, sets her apart as a remarkable caregiver. Nominators praised her empathy and humor, noting the extraordinary lengths she takes to ensure comfort and well-being.
One patient shared, "Ms. Donnie’s warmth and sincerity instantly put my worries at ease. Her gentle, reassuring spirit made a difficult moment feel lighter, and for that, I will always be thankful." Another patient expressed gratitude for her rare blend of professionalism and compassion, crediting Mathis with transforming stressful situations into positive experiences.
The BEE Award is presented monthly to recognize non-nursing staff members, including patient care technicians, nursing assistants, and medical assistants, who exemplify extraordinary dedication, teamwork, and compassion in supporting the nursing staff. Nominees are evaluated based on leadership, attitude, and clinical support skills.
