Staff Report From Georgia CEO

SGMC Health named Shayanne Brantley, a barista in Food Services, as the January Health System Hero in recognition of her extraordinary compassion and selfless service.

While speaking with a patient's daughter on Christmas Eve, Brantley learned that she had come in from out of town and was unable to bring a Christmas gift. Seeing her distress, Brantley immediately offered comfort and purchased a coffee to provide a moment of relief. Then she went a step further.

Brantley located the patient’s room number, visited the Golden Galleria Gift Shop at the hospital, and personally assembled a beautifully wrapped gift basket—selecting items such as a blanket, coffee mug, lotions, and a candle to bring warmth and comfort to a patient spending the holiday in the hospital. The thoughtful gesture deeply moved the patient and her family.

Brantley has continued to stay in touch with the patient and her family in the weeks since, demonstrating her true commitment to caring for others.

“This is the very definition of selfless service,” said Hilary Gibbs, Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer. “Shayanne’s heartfelt actions not only brightened a patient’s holiday but strengthened the bond between caregivers and families—reflecting the values we aspire to uphold across our health system every single day.”

Brantley received a standing ovation from those in attendance.
