SGMC Health honored Hunter Harvey, RN in Pediatrics, as its January DAISY Award recipient, recognizing his quick thinking, preparedness, and compassionate care during a critical moment on the unit.

Harvey was nominated by a fellow nurse who witnessed his calm, decisive actions during a sudden patient emergency. He responded to a loved one's frantic call light in the middle of the night. Because he had proactively prepared the bedside with necessary supplies, he was able to intervene immediately and stabilize the situation, ensuring the patient’s safety and comfort. His colleague praised him for staying composed under pressure and for embodying the true spirit of exceptional nursing.

"Thanks to Hunter's heroic actions during what could have been a tragedy, this patient was able to return home to spend Christmas with family," shared the nurse.

The DAISY Award is presented monthly in front of the nurse’s colleagues, physicians, patients, and visitors. Each honoree receives a certificate of recognition, a hand-carved sculpture titled A Healer’s Touch from the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe, and a floral arrangement of daisies, generously donated by The Flower Gallery, SGMC Health’s local DAISY Award sponsor.

SGMC Health offers a variety of recognition programs to honor employees who embody its tagline of Remarkable People, Extraordinary Care, Human Kindness. To learn more about these awards and other recognition programs, visit sgmc.org/recognition.
