SGMC Health’s Medical Education program announces the appointment of Ornob Rahman, MD, and Samuel Edusa, MD, as Chief Residents for the Internal Medicine Residency Program beginning in March 2026. These physicians were selected by their peers and approved by faculty and staff for their exceptional leadership, professionalism, and commitment to clinical excellence.

The Chief Resident role is a distinguished milestone in medical education, offering opportunities to strengthen clinical, teaching, and administrative skills. During their one-year term, Dr. Rahman and Dr. Edusa will serve as vital liaisons between residents and faculty, lead educational conferences, coordinate schedules, supervise trainees, and champion resident well-being. In addition to guiding Internal Medicine residents, they will also oversee Transitional Year residents, ensuring a collaborative and supportive learning environment.

Dr. Rahman earned his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Health Sciences in St. Kitts, bringing a strong foundation in patient-centered care and academic leadership. Dr. Edusa graduated from the University of Ghana Medical School, where he developed a reputation for clinical excellence and compassionate mentorship.

Greg Beale, MD, Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program, expressed his confidence in the new leaders, saying, "Dr. Rahman and Dr. Edusa represent the future of medicine. Their dedication to education and patient care will not only strengthen our residency program but also inspire the next generation of physicians. I look forward to seeing the positive impact they will make during their tenure as Chief Residents."

SGMC Health’s Medical Education program continues to expand and thrive. In addition to the Internal Medicine program, the system also offers a one-year Transitional Year residency program, providing foundational clinical experience for physicians entering various specialties. Looking ahead, SGMC Health will launch a Family Medicine residency program in summer 2026, further reinforcing the organization’s commitment to advancing healthcare access, education, and quality throughout the region.

In addition, SGMC Health also serves as a clinical campus for Mercer University School of Medicine, providing third- and fourth-year medical students with hands-on training and immersive clinical experiences that prepare them for successful careers in medicine.
