SGMC Health Welcomes Internal Medicine Teaching Faculty
Tuesday, September 9th, 2025
SGMC Health is pleased to welcome Dwayne Mohan, MD; Rosaida Silverio-Lopez, MD; and Venkata Gandi, MD as Internal Medicine Teaching Faculty. These physicians are graduates of SGMC Health’s inaugural class of Internal Medicine resident physicians and will now join the faculty to help train the next generation of residents in the hospital setting.
Each physician brings a unique perspective shaped by their personal journey into medicine, their commitment to compassionate care, and their dedication to medical education.
Meet Dwayne Mohan, MD
Dr. Mohan is an Internal Medicine physician with a passion for comprehensive adult care and medical education. He treats a wide range of conditions including diabetes, hypertension, heart and lung diseases, infections, and autoimmune disorders. With a focus on preventive medicine and chronic disease management, Dr. Mohan takes a multidisciplinary approach to ensure patients receive coordinated, high-quality care.
Dr. Mohan completed his medical degree at Spartan Health Sciences University School of Medicine, where he developed a strong foundation in clinical reasoning and patient-centered care.
“I use humor, empathy, and plain language to make sure my patients feel comfortable, like they’re talking to a trusted friend who just happens to be a doctor,” said Dr. Mohan.
Dr. Mohan’s decision to pursue medicine was driven by a fascination with the human body and a desire to improve lives. Internal Medicine, he says, allows him to be both a “detective” for complex medical puzzles and a long-term partner in his patients’ health journeys.
Outside of work, Dr. Mohan enjoys traveling, cooking, exploring new restaurants, and staying active through running, hiking, and tennis. He also finds joy in music and mentoring medical students and residents, furthering his belief that laughter and learning are powerful forms of medicine.
Meet Rosaida Silverio-Lopez, MD
As an internist, Dr. Silverio-Lopez specializes in the comprehensive care of adult patients. Her training allows her to diagnose, manage, and prevent a wide range of conditions affecting internal organs and body systems, including high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, COPD, kidney disease, and infections.
Dr. Silverio-Lopez emphasizes the importance of listening in her approach to care. “By taking the time to hear each patient’s story, I create a space where they feel understood, respected, and supported,” she says. Her compassionate and attentive style helps patients feel confident and cared for throughout their health journey.
Her path to medicine was inspired by a love for science and biology, and deeply influenced by her experience helping care for her grandmother. “Through those moments, I came to appreciate the profound impact physicians can have on people’s lives,” she shares. Internal Medicine became the perfect fit, allowing her to combine scientific curiosity with a dedication to improving patient outcomes.
Dr. Silverio-Lopez completed her medical degree at Santo Domingo Institute of Technology (INTEC) Faculty of Health Sciences, where she developed a strong foundation in clinical care and research. She is especially drawn to cardiology and is passionate about advancing her expertise in this area.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Silverio-Lopez enjoys playing tennis, spending time at the beach, playing guitar, and being with her family.
Meet Venkata Gandi, MD
Dr. Gandi is an Internal Medicine physician who specializes in hospital-based care for adults. His clinical focus includes managing acute medical conditions and ensuring patients receive compassionate, high-quality care during their hospital stay.
Dr. Gandi earned his medical degree from St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine – Grand Cayman. Known for his calm demeanor and thoughtful approach, he was encouraged by mentors and colleagues during residency to pursue a role in medical education. Today, he is dedicated to training the next generation of physicians while continuing to provide exceptional care to his patients.
“As a hospitalist, I start each day by asking my patients, ‘How can I make your day better today?’” says Dr. Gandi. “My goal is to help them return safely and quickly to their families, knowing they’ve received the best care possible.”
Dr. Gandi’s path to medicine began after leaving a master’s program in biochemistry, where he realized his passion lay in human connection rather than laboratory research. That decision led him to a fulfilling career in medicine, where he now combines clinical excellence with mentorship.
Outside of work, Dr. Gandi enjoys weightlifting, running, and traveling. He and his wife, Anusha, have been married for three years and are excitedly expecting their first child in November 2025.
“We are proud to welcome Drs. Mohan, Silverio-Lopez, and Gandi to our teaching faculty,” said Joseph Hayes, MD, Designated Institutional Official. “Their transition from residents to educators reflects the strength of our Graduate Medical Education program and our commitment to developing exceptional physicians who serve our community with compassion and excellence.”
