The Valdosta Rotary Club continues its commitment to advancing literacy and education in the community by presenting $1,000 to the Wiregrass Georgia Technical College GED program. This marks the fifth consecutive year the club has supported the program, which helps cover the cost of GED exams for adult learners seeking to complete their high school equivalency.
“Rotary’s mission is rooted in service, and education is one of the most powerful tools for changing lives,” said Deanna Smith, Valdosta Rotary Club Literacy Chair. “By investing in the GED program at Wiregrass Tech, we are giving individuals a second chance to achieve their goals and strengthening our community in the process.”
Rotary International identifies literacy as one of its key pillars, recognizing education as a pathway to opportunity, confidence, and stronger communities. By reducing financial barriers, the Valdosta Rotary Club helps more adults achieve educational milestones that can lead to better employment opportunities and a brighter future.
The Valdosta Rotary Club also sponsors the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which provides books for free to registered children in Lowndes County every month until their 5th birthday. These high-quality, age-appropriate books are mailed directly to each child registered in the program.
“The Valdosta Rotary Club has a proud legacy of supporting literacy programs that make a lasting difference in our community,” said Thressea Boyd, President of the Valdosta Rotary Club. “From sponsoring the Dolly Parton Imagination Library to helping adults complete their GED, we are advancing literacy programs and ensuring that people of all ages have the tools they need to succeed.”
