Thursday, August 28th, 2025
SGMC Health is pleased to welcome Ayo Ayodele as the health system's Director of Rehabilitation Services. In this role, Ayodele will oversee all aspects of SGMC Health’s comprehensive rehabilitation programs, including the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit.
Ayodele brings more than 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry, including 12 years as a practicing physical therapist and 13 years in progressive leadership roles such as Manager, Director, Associate Administrator, and most recently, CEO of Encompass Health. His extensive background and strategic vision are expected to significantly enhance SGMC Health’s rehabilitation programs.
SGMC Health’s Rehabilitation Services are designed to improve the functional independence of patients with a wide range of impairments, limitations, and disabilities. The department offers a full continuum of care, beginning with acute hospital-based rehabilitation, where therapy teams provide physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology to medical and surgical patients across all four hospital campuses. These therapists collaborate closely with case managers, social workers, nursing staff, physicians, and families to evaluate patient needs, deliver therapeutic interventions, and determine appropriate next steps in recovery.
The Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit supports patients recovering from disabling illnesses or injuries, helping them regain independence and return to the community. For those able to travel, outpatient rehabilitation services offer ongoing therapy tailored to individual recovery goals in a clinic setting. Across all levels of care, SGMC Health remains committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered rehabilitation that aligns with its mission to improve the lives of all it serves.
Ayodele holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Syracuse University and an MBA from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is also an active member of the Physical Therapy Association of Georgia (PTAG) and the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
"I am excited about the potential of our rehabilitation services to grow, develop, and expand to best serve our communities," he shared. "I envision a Rehab Unit that can become a regional leader in care, driven by a high-performing team committed to excellence.”
Ayodele is married to Nancy, and they have three children.
