The City of Valdosta has officially recognized the contributions of Black-owned businesses to its economy by presenting a proclamation to the Southern Georgia Black Chambers (SGBC). The ceremony, held on Monday, August 11, at City Hall, formally declared August 2025 as National Black Business and Philanthropic Month.
Valdosta Mayor Scott James Matheson and city officials presented the proclamation, which emphasized the significant role of Black entrepreneurs in the city's economic growth, job creation, and cultural vibrancy.
The event was attended by SGBC Chamber members, including local business owners and community leaders, who were able to network with city officials and other entrepreneurs. This reinforced the Chamber's mission to facilitate valuable connections within the community.
