Valdosta’s Unemployment Rate Drops in April

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that Valdosta recorded an unemployment rate of 3.4% in April, down seven-tenths over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.1%.
“This April, unemployment rates dropped across every region of Georgia,” said Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “When we connect Georgians with meaningful work, we're putting food on tables, creating stability for individuals and families, and building an economy where our children can see their future—right here at home. This is how we grow a stronger Georgia—one job, one family, one community at a time.”
The labor force in Valdosta decreased by 503 from the previous month and ended April with 60,676. That number decreased by 1,025 from April 2024.
Valdosta finished the month with 58,642 employed residents. That number decreased by 23 from the previous month and decreased by 1,129 from the same time last year.
Valdosta ended April with 56,700 jobs, unchanged from the previous month and down 600 from the same time last year.
In April, initial unemployment claims increased by 22 from the previous month and fell by 59 from the same month a year ago, totaling 220.
