SGMC Health is proud to recognize Amanda Fruth, RN, of the Pearlman Cancer Center, as the April recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. This prestigious award is part of a national program that honors nurses for their exceptional skill, compassion, and dedication to patient care.

Fruth was nominated by a nurse in SGMC General Surgery at the office of Stephen Zeigler, MD. The nomination describes how she went above and beyond to ensure a vulnerable patient received necessary care without unnecessary hardship. When a wheelchair-bound patient needed a specialized procedure with an implanted port, Fruth didn’t hesitate. She paused her responsibilities at the Cancer Center and made her way, through the rain, to the outpatient clinic to assist.

Thanks to her swift and selfless response, the patient was spared a trip to the main hospital. More importantly, Fruth demonstrated the true spirit of teamwork and compassion that defines SGMC Health.
"Amanda not only helped our patient and prevented her from having to travel in the rain, but she also showed the patient that everyone at SGMC Health is part of an amazing team," her nomination read.
DAISY Awards are presented monthly in front of the nurse’s colleagues, physicians, patients, and visitors. Each honoree receives a certificate of recognition, a hand-carved sculpture titled A Healer’s Touch from the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe, and a special floral arrangement of daisies, generously donated by The Flower Gallery, SGMC Health’s local DAISY Award sponsor.

SGMC Health offers a variety of recognition programs to honor employees who embody its core values of "Remarkable People, Extraordinary Care, Human Kindness." To learn more about these awards and other recognition programs, visit sgmc.org/recognition.
