Overnight Exit 11 Bridge Removal Will Impact I-75 Traffic
Monday, September 23rd, 2024
What: The last remaining 1961 bridge over Interstate 75 at Exit 11 is scheduled to be removed next week, which will impact traffic overnight. The original interchange consisted of twin bridges. The northernmost one was removed in 2022 to clear the way for construction of a new bridge that opened to traffic this week. Still to come is construction of roundabouts at the ramps. Reconstruction of the interchange to improve operation and enhance safety is currently expected to be complete in late spring of 2025. It is a $37 million blended federal, state and Transportation Investment Act (TIA) funded project.
Where: I-75 Exit 11/State Route 31/Madison Highway, Lowndes County.
When: Tuesday, Sept. 24 (I-75 south) and Wednesday, Sept. 25 (I-75 north). Work will begin at 9 p.m. and will be complete by 6 a.m. the following day. I-75 traffic will be reduced to one right lane and motorists will use the Exit 11 ramps to exit and re-enter the interstate. Deputies will direct traffic at the top of the ramps. The schedule is subject to change depending on weather conditions.
