Governor Brian Kemp has appointed Lowndes County Board of Commissioners Chairman Bill Slaughter to the Georgia Board of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD).
The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) operates five state psychiatric hospitals and provides community-based services across the state through contracted providers. The department serves people living with mental health challenges, substance use disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, or any combination of these. As Georgia’s public safety net, DBHDD’s primary responsibility is to serve people who are uninsured. They also serve individuals on Medicaid and others with few resources or options.
“I am truly honored to be appointed to the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Board,” said Chairman Bill Slaughter. “I am eager to contribute to our board’s efforts in improving mental health and developmental disability services across the state.”
Chairman Bill Slaughter has been serving as the Chairman of the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners since 2013. Throughout his tenure, he has been actively involved in various civic groups, trade associations, and community boards, including the Homebuilders Association of South Georgia, Construction Industry Licensing Board of Georgia, Lowndes-Valdosta Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals, Greater Lowndes Planning Commission, and Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Foundation Board. He is also a graduate of Leadership Lowndes Class of 2007 and a member of the Legacy Behavioral Health Community Service Board. Additionally, he has held leadership roles such as Executive Committee Chairman of the Transportation Investment Act and Chairman of the Citizens Review Panel for the Transportation Investment Act, overseeing transportation projects for the southern region.
Chairman Slaughter will serve a three-year term on the DBHDD Board, where his extensive experience and dedication to public service will be invaluable in advancing the department’s mission.
