Monday, July 22nd, 2024
The Valdosta Municipal Court, in collaboration with the Valdosta Housing Authority, celebrated the successful conclusion of its week-long Mock Trial program on Friday, July 19th. Under the guidance of Municipal Court Judge Jeremy Baker, ten participants from the Valdosta Housing Authority attended this educational initiative aimed at imparting legal knowledge and skills.
The participants included Tiara Hadley, Ariana Mitchell, Aliyah Berrian, Kemarion Newsome, Jamari Gordon, I'Zera Greer, Christopher Greer, Yamiir Hargrove, Chardonnay Goldwire and Kamoni Goldwire.
The participants engaged in a simulated legal experience throughout the week, tackling a cyberbullying case. They were divided into roles, with some taking on the responsibilities of lawyers and others stepping into the role of witnesses. This hands-on approach gave them a comprehensive understanding of the legal process, from case preparation to courtroom presentation.
Judge Baker expressed his enthusiasm for the program, noting, "It has been incredible to watch these young minds delve into the complexities of the law. Their dedication and progress over the past week have been truly inspiring."
The program was designed to equip students with critical thinking, public speaking, and legal reasoning skills; each day featured intensive training sessions where students learned about legal procedures, case analysis, and argument presentation. The culmination of their efforts was showcased in a mock trial, where they demonstrated their newly acquired skills in a professional setting.
