Friday, May 10th, 2024
The Valdosta Rotary Club was awarded Gold Club status at the 66th District 6920 Annual Conference held at Jekyll Island from April 26-28, 2024.
The elite Gold Club status is a testament to the Valdosta Rotary Club's dedication to service and community involvement. This recognition is bestowed on clubs demonstrating exceptional levels of participation, including service projects, leadership, and fundraising endeavors throughout the year.
The Valdosta Rotary Club's extensive community service projects span from literacy and education to supporting and honoring local law enforcement officers. Each year, Valdosta Rotarians contribute hundreds of volunteer hours, making a tangible impact on the lives of individuals and families within the community.
"For over a century, Valdosta Rotarians have been leading the way in organizing service projects that provide crucial assistance to those in need," said Valdosta Rotary Club President Deanna Smith. "Receiving the Gold Award is a testament to our club's unwavering commitment to serving our community and globally through Rotary's international efforts, like eradicating polio."
Rotary District 6920 includes 60 clubs, and each club can achieve Gold, Silver, or Bronze status based on the number of citation points earned during the year, which begins on July 1.
"We earned 82 citation points, exceeding the 70 points needed to obtain Gold status," Smith said. "Rotarians are individuals of action, and even when we knew we had already reached the required 70 points, our club members showed their determination by continuing to strive for excellence."
