SGMC Health Recognizes Hutchins as Health System Hero
Friday, November 17th, 2023
SGMC Health honored Brandy Hutchins, Radiology Technician, as the Health System Hero at the November Board of Trustees meeting. Hutchins was nominated by a coworker for her quick thinking during an emergency to save a patient's life.
Hutchins has been with the health system for more than 20 years and serves in a variety of capacities at SGMC's Health Care South and Occupational Medicine Center.
According to the nomination, Hutchins answered the clinic's phone and upon having a conversation with a patient realized that the patient needed emergency medical services. Hutchins immediately conferenced in 911 on the call and assisted in giving information to the dispatcher so that EMS could respond. She stayed on the call with the patient to assure her that help was on the way.
After the patient's stay in the hospital, she returned to the clinic to thank Hutchins for helping save her life.
"Brandy's exemplary actions in the face of an emergency truly embody the spirit of a compassionate healthcare worker," shared Brenda Alexander, SGMC Health Chief Human Resources Officer and Vice President of Physician Network.
Hutchins received a standing ovation from those in attendance.
