“The grant awarded to the state of Georgia by the USDOL is a testament to our commitment to removing barriers and enhancing access to unemployment insurance benefits for our residents,” said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “We understand the importance of addressing various challenges that individuals face when accessing these benefits, and we are grateful for the support of the U.S. Department of Labor and the American Rescue Plan Act to help us achieve these goals."

The key initiatives this equity grant will fund include:

Plain Language Initiative: One of GDOL's key priorities is revising Georgia's unemployment-related documents to meet federal plain language requirements. This initiative will ensure the process is accessible for all applicants, regardless of their English proficiency or literacy levels. In addition, GDOL is working to create an online survey where current and future UI applicants can provide immediate feedback regarding their overall experience navigating through the UI process and their understanding of the UI program and requirements.

The USDOL’s emphasis on equity aligns with the Georgia Department of Labor’s mission to serve all Georgians, regardless of race, age, ethnicity, disability status, or geographic location.
