New unemployment claims decreased by 5.7% week-over-week on August 28, amid the slowing of inflation. To help add some context to these statistics, WalletHub just released updated rankings for the States Where Unemployment Claims Are Decreasing the Most.

Every state had unemployment claims last week that were lower than in the previous week except for Pennsylvania, Illinois, North Carolina, California, Nebraska, Virginia, New Mexico, Minnesota, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Colorado, Utah, Delaware, Maine, Washington, Massachusetts, Kansas, North Dakota, Connecticut, Iowa, Alaska, Indiana and Missouri.

Every state had unemployment claims last week that were lower than in the same week pre-pandemic (2019) except for Vermont, Maine, Texas, New Jersey, North Carolina, Idaho, Tennessee, New Mexico, Iowa, California, Rhode Island, Oregon, Virginia, Minnesota, Connecticut, Colorado, Indiana, Utah, Ohio, Missouri, Hawaii and the District of Columbia.

Surprisingly, 35 states – including Hawaii, Missouri, and Massachusetts – had unemployment claims last week that were worse than the same week last year.
