Moody AFB Hosts Combined Awareness Event
Wednesday, April 12th, 2023
Moody Air Force Base hosted the third annual Combined Awareness Event in the George W. Bush Air Park at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia, April 10, 2023.
The goal of this event was to bring awareness to Moody’s various support agencies, private organizations, as well as some of the local off-base agencies, to promote and educate Airmen and their families on the resources available to them.
“We’ve been affected heavily by the mission recently,” said Master Sgt. Tony Johnson, 23rd Force Support Squadron readiness noncommissioned officer in charge and event coordinator. “It’s the perfect time for our family members and our local community to be aware of the resources available to them. We’re a smaller base by statute but when it comes down to the mission, we lead the Air Force. This event definitely supported the Flying Tigers.”
Sexual Assault Prevention and Response, Child Abuse Awareness Month, Month of the Military Child and Alcohol Abuse Awareness are all observed in April, and this event aimed to highlight those as well as any other needs families may encounter.
“Arming our Airmen with resources and information better prepares them for the unique demands and challenges that come with military life,” said Johnson. “Knowledge is power, so inevitably this event will make Team Moody stronger – making the entire force stronger.”
Along with the roughly 35 agencies that had booths set up, a variety of activities and local food trucks were available as an opportunity to boost morale and give the opportunity for Airmen to connect with each other.
“You're not alone. There's comfort in knowing there's other people in your situation and there are trained professionals to help you,” said Arnay Crew, 23rd Civil Engineer Squadron chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear instructor and event planner. “We wanted everyone to come out, know what we have here on Moody and off-base as well, because plenty of people in the Valdosta area also help support base endeavors.”
Team Moody’s helping agencies and private organizations will continue to seize opportunities to strengthen the service, such as a Diversity Day event later this year that will focus on celebrating the different cultures that make the force strong.
