South Georgia Medical Center’s Volunteer Auxiliary is now accepting applications for its Volunteen Summer Program, formerly known as Canopy of Care. The youth volunteer initiative is an opportunity for high school students to discover the SGMC healthcare environment in a variety of roles and departments.

Volunteen placement ranges from clinical areas in various departments such as medical/surgical units, cancer center, imaging, laboratory, rehabilitation, and the emergency room. Non-clinical placements include information technology and support services such as human resources and food services.

“SGMC’s teen volunteer program offers a unique experience for those students whose ultimate career interests lie within the healthcare profession,” shared Dana Massingill, Director of Physician Relations and Volunteer Services. "Their 6-week summer adventure exposes them to the inner workings of a busy hospital and health system and encourages civic engagement."

The Volunteen program is open to rising ninth through twelfth graders with a B or higher grade point average.

Interested students can learn more information and submit their applications online at www.sgmc.org/volunteen by April 24, 2023.
