SGMC Volunteer Auxiliary Celebrates Service

South Georgia Medical Center Auxiliary recently gathered for a luncheon to install their new Board of Management Officers and recognize members for their volunteer hours.
The annual ceremony celebrated achievements for the 2021-2022 year, including 13 new volunteers, 6 fundraisers, and two $1,000 scholarships. The volunteers have contributed nearly 6,000 hours of service in the past year to total more than 2 million hours since the program’s inception. This year, the Auxiliary donated $45,000 to SGMC to help fund various patient care equipment needs.
"Our dedicated volunteers are vital to the daily operations of our health system," said Johnny Ball, Vice President of Marketing and Public Affairs. "We are grateful that they choose to utilize their time and talents to serve patients and guests at SGMC."
The Volunteer Auxilians, or Pink Ladies and Red Coats as they are commonly called, volunteer in various areas of the hospital assisting with family, visitor, and patient care support as well as fundraising initiatives. Auxiliary members receiving pins included Barbara Thomas (Honorary Member with 10,000+ hours); Emerida Rodriguez (6,000 hours); Dianne Belcher (5,500 hours); Mary Young Manning (5,500 hours); Carroll Griffin (3,000 hours); Debbie Dowling (1,000 hours); Peggy Beauvais (500 hours); Brennan Hulett (400 hours); Joan Barrese (300 hours); Morgan Wynn (100 hours); Clara Lugo (100 hours); Barbara Gattignolo (100 hours); Tirys Carr (50 hours); and Zaeli Lopez (50 hours).
The new officers are as follows: Ora Morrison, President; Peggy Beauvais, President-Elect; Joan Barrese, VP of Programs and Recording Secretary; Emerida Rodriguez, Corresponding Secretary; Dianne Belcher, Ways and Means; Evelyn Harrell, Treasurer; Barbara Thomas, Parliamentarian; and Jan Newton, Past President. Special recognition was given to Debbie Dowling and Mary Young Manning for their extraordinary work on the Auxiliary Newsletter, the Pinkadilly News.
